Using Images for Printing – from the web.
When you are designing your beautiful artwork for your print project, you will undoubtedly look to use images for your print project – from the web. This is not as easy as it looks.
Most images that you would see on the web are low-resolution, and will not print well. Another issue to consider is that most images on the web are “Private Property” and you require permission from the owner to use them. Without their permission you could face legal complications.
So how do you know if you have images that are good for printing on the web… it’s not easy?
First up, save the image as a jpeg. This will obviously look good on your screen – it’s meant to.
Then convert the image to a pdf, and view the image at 100%. If it looks fuzzy, it will print fuzzy!
If the image saves at a smaller size than you need, you will have to enlarge the pdf, to the size that you are going to require, and again, look to see if it is going to look pixelated.
It is always a good idea to print the image on your local office or home printer at the size that you want it, and see what it will look like. Your home of office printer will give you a very good representation of how the work is going to look when you send us your artwork and we print it for you.
Send us your picture, and we will check it for you!
If you don’t have the tools to check your artwork, just send us the image to info@goldcoastprinters.net.au, and we will check it for you, and will always be willing to chat about your project, and see if we can help to get your work done correctly for you.
What size is the file?
The actual size of the file is often a good indicator of how something will print, so if a picture saves as a pdf and is over 1Mb in size, this is quite a good indication that the file will print well – this is not always the case, but is a good indication.
