straight into ChatGPT. This sets up all the print specifications so ChatGPT knows exactly what it’s working with:
I need you to help me create print-ready artwork for a card for (insert whatever you want here) for my wife. Please follow these exact print specifications for every file you create: PRINT SPECIFICATIONS Colour mode: CMYK only (not RGB) Resolution: 300 DPI minimum File format: PDF/X-1a (flattened, no layers, no transparency) Bleed: 3mm external bleed outside the trim edge on all four sides Safe zone: 3mm internal safe zone inside the trim edge on all four sides (keep all text and important design elements within this boundary) Crop marks: Include printer crop marks offset 3mm from the bleed edge Fonts: All fonts must be embedded or converted to outlines Images: All images must be embedded, not linked DOCUMENT SIZES (insert the size that you want, A3/A4/A5/A6/DL, or a specific size that you want) Use these exact finished (trim) sizes. Once you’ve pasted the prompt, simply tell ChatGPT what you want to create. I typed in that I wanted to design a business card — and like magic, in a flash, it created a fabulous card. It wasn’t quite right first time — it was the wrong size, had round corners, and used a picture of an arbitrary couple — but that’s completely fine, because the next step is where the real fun begins.
This is where ChatGPT really shines. I simply said:
“OK, make this DL size, with square corners, and use the picture of my wife that I have attached — but deep etch my wife from the picture and use her deep etched picture instead of the couple.”
I then selected a photo of my wife and dropped it into ChatGPT. It did this in about 30 seconds. I was genuinely amazed.
You can do exactly the same — change the size, swap the colours, update the text, add your own photo, change the layout. Just keep talking to it as if you’re briefing a designer.
Don’t stop at the first result. ChatGPT is incredibly patient — you can ask it to tweak and refine as many times as you like until it looks exactly the way you want. Try different colour combinations, different layouts, different finishes. Have fun with it!
